The Quality Coffee Certificate Program (QCCP) is celebrating its 15th year of coffee education at this year’s OneShow. This valuable program educates industry professionals on the best practices, ingredients and techniques involved in brewing great coffee. Since its inception in October of 2000, over 1,000 individuals have taken QCCP and learned how to experience coffee in a way that ignites passion. Mike Tompkins, QCCP facilitator and coffee industry expert hopes to inspire this passion in course participants as they “inhale the fragrance, learn to linger over the aroma, and savor the flavor of coffee.”
Two interactive workshops offer attendees a meaningful learning experience: Coffee Fundamentals and Brewing Technologies.
Coffee Fundamentals presents the development of coffee flavor qualities – from the rich history of coffee and its different countries of origin through the bean to cup process. QCCP participants will experience original and blended coffees through a series of guided tasting exercises and gain a fundamental but extensive understanding of coffee production and manufacturing.
Brewing Technologies will teach participants how to evaluate single-serve systems and introduce the principles governing the preparation of filtered coffee. This hands-on session will also include a guided tasting experience that demonstrates just how much the slightest change in the brewing formula can alter the taste profile of the final cup.
QCCP participants may choose to attend one or both sessions during this intensive, hands-on day of training. Upon completing both courses, attendees will be eligible to apply for the NAMA Certified Coffee Specialist (CCS) designation.
