Coffee Legend of the Year Award

A NAMA Coffee Legend is a pioneer, innovator, leader, and much more. They are passionate about coffee; they are willing to share that passion to educate and help others succeed.

To be considered for the Coffee Legend of the Year Award, the nominee must:

  • Have a minimum of 10 years of service to the coffee industry.
  • Be readily recognized as a pioneer or innovator in the coffee industry.
  • Have been recognized by their peers in the past for exemplary business practices, been active in local charities or civic projects, or received recognition for exemplary support of the coffee industry.
  • Have exhibited a history of service and leadership to the industry. Active participation in NAMA, state councils, and their communities is highly valued.
  • Have contributed to the promotion of the coffee service industry through trade magazine articles, leading education workshops, published papers, etc.
  • Be a distinguished participant and leader in the coffee industry. This includes, but is not limited to coffee service operators, coffee roasters, manufacturers, suppliers, distributors, brokers and educators.
  • Be respected within the industry due to her or his integrity, follows consistent ethical business standards as described in the voluntary NAMA Ethics Standards, raising the level of professionalism, helping others succeed, and/or providing educational opportunities.
  • Be a NAMA member in good standing at the time of nomination or time of retirement.
  • Not have been honored with the award within the past 7 years.

Selection Process

The Coffee Legend of the Year should be a fixture and leader in the coffee industry and their community. As such, inductees are nominated by their peers, evaluated against the nomination criteria, and selected by a committee of industry leaders.

Deadline to submit nominations is October 11, 2020.

Based on the award criteria (listed above), please provide a narrative which describes the reason why the named candidate should be considered for the award. Please note, nominees only need one nomination to be considered. Multiple nominations do not increase a candidate’s chances of winning the award.

Industry Person of the Year

The Industry Person of the Year Award recognizes an individual who has consistently exemplified the highest standards of professional excellence and achieved business success throughout his or her career in the convenience services industry. Candidates have been an inspiration and thought leader to others throughout their career.

Congratulations to 2020 recipient: Nicky Gacos, Owner, Colorado Café Associates

Operator of the Year

The Operator of the Year Award is presented to an individual that best exemplifies consistent advancement of the convenience services industry. Candidates must be innovative and possess a willingness to expand conventional business practices.

Allied Member of the Year

The Allied Member of the Year Award, presented to a non-operator member, recognizes an individual who has exhibited the highest level of integrity, dedication, and leadership to the convenience services channels. Candidates must provide innovative leadership, demonstrate responsiveness to the needs of the industry through education and best practices, and offer products and services that help operators grow their businesses.

Eligibility Criteria

In addition to the criteria listed above, nominees must meet the following criteria.

  • Nominee must be a NAMA member in good standing at the time of nomination.
  • Nominee exhibits a history of service and leadership to the industry. Active participation in NAMA, state councils, and their communities is highly valued.
  • The nominee is respected within the industry due to her or his integrity, raising the level of professionalism, helping others succeed, and/or providing educational opportunities.
  • Nominee must be innovative, possess a willingness to expand conventional practices and follow consistent ethical business standards as described in the voluntary NAMA Ethics Standards.
  • Nominees must not have been honored with the award within 7 years.
